Elections Will Normalise Citizens's Life,Says João Miranda

FOREIGN MINISTER JOÃO MIRANDA SAYS AFRICAN POLITICIANS SHOULD WORK TO NEARING THE PEOPLE OF AFRICAN CONTINENT

The holding of the next elections in Angola,expected for 2006,will represent an important step towards the stabilisation of national institutions and the normalisation of the life of Angolan citizens, said Thursday,in Luanda,the Angolan Foreign Affairs Minister,João Miranda,on the occasion of the May 25 celebrations(Africa Day).
Speaking before several African countries ambassadors to Angola,and from other parts of the world, the Foreign minister said that, in Angola,there is a peculiar process in progress and interesting for the African context, which is that "peace consolidation walks hand in hand with the consolidation and national reconciliation process".

According to the Minister,the Angolan government is currently making efforts for national reconstruction and the creation of the foundation for a democratic lawful state.
Concerning the problems that affect all African countries,João Miranda believes that the creation of the African Union(AU) constitutes an important step towards the materialisation of the ideals of unity and socio-economic development of the continent.
However,he stresses,it is paramount that the AU does not become a forum for politics only,but become an instrument that gives privilege to a real approximation of peoples,in the ambit of the political, economic,social and cultural initiatives.

As regards the New Partnership for African Development(NEPAD),Joao Miranda said that it represents a strategic framework for the re-birth of the continent,thus,it should get the support of all the African political forces.
"However,all these mechanisms will serve us for nothing if a little everywhere in Africa continues to prevail systems of governance inadequate to our epoch,where the proliferation of conflicts beget a permanent national,regional and even continental instability,putting at risk all our will to progress",explained João Miranda.

Meanwhile,this Thursday morning,the Foreign Minister went to the Independence Square,in Luanda,and placed a wreath of flowers on the statue of the late and first president of Angola,Dr Antonio Agostinho Neto,to mark Africa Day celebrations.
On the occasion,João Miranda said that in order for the African continent to have harmony it is necessary to put an end to inter-ethnic conflicts.

Concerning the current crisis in Guinea-Bissau,Joao Miranda said that he has been following it carefully and he hopes the situation gets back to normal as soon as possible.
On his turn,Fatah Mahraz,Algerian ambassador to Angola,and also the deputy dean of the African ambassadors here,said in the act that this day reasserts the wish of Africans of fighting against the colonial yoke.
He exhorted the older generation to pass the message on May 25 to the coming generations,since this date has an important historical and political impact.

NO DIA DE ÁFRICA,MINISTRO DAS RELAÇÕES EXTERIORES DIZ QUE POLÍTICOS AFRICANOS DEVEM APROXIMAR OS POVOS DO CONTINENTE

A realização das próximas eleições em Angola,em 2006,vai representar um importante passo para a estabilização das instituições nacionais e a normalização da vida dos cidadãos angolanos,afirmou nesta quarta-feira,em Luanda,o Ministro das Relações Exteriores,João Miranda,por ocasião do 25 de Maio,Dia de África.
Ao discursar perante dezenas de embaixadores africanos e de outras regiões do mundo,o chefe da diplomacia angolana realçou que no seu país ocorre um processo ímpar e muito interessante no contexto africano:"A consolidação da paz anda de mãos dadas com o processo de consolidação e reconciliação nacional".

Segundo o Ministro,o Governo de Angola desenvolve actualmente esforços para a reconstrução nacional e a criação dos alicerces para um Estado democrático e de direito.
Em relação aos problemas que afectam todos os países de África,João Miranda acredita que a criação da União Africana UA)constituiu um importante passo para a concretização dos ideais da unidade e desenvolvimento sócio-económico do continente.
No entanto,sublinha o Ministro angolano,é imperioso que a UA não se limite a um espaço apenas para políticos,devendo constituir-se num instrumento que privilegie a aproximação real dos povos,quer seja no âmbito das iniciativas de carácter político,quer nos domínios económico,social e cultural.
Quanto à Nova Parceria para o Desenvolvimento de África (Nepad),o chefe da diplomacia angolana ressaltou o facto dela representar um quadro estratégico para a renascença do continente,devendo,por isso, merecer o apoio de todos de todas as forças políticas africanas.

"Porém,todos esses mecanismos de nada nos servirão,se um pouco por toda a África continuar a prevalecer os sistemas de governação inadequados à nossa época,onde a proliferação de conflitos geram uma permanente instabilidade nacional,regional e até mesmo continental, colocando em risco toda a nossa vontade de progredir",esclareceu o Ministro Miranda.
Entretanto,no período da manhã de hoje,realizou-se uma cerimónia de deposição de uma coroa de flores pelo Ministro das Relações Exteriores,João Miranda,na estátua do primeiro presidente de Angola, António Agostinho Neto,um acto que marcou o dia dedicado à África.
Na ocasião,João Miranda disse que os conflitos inter-étnicos presistentes ainda em vários países africanos,deixam o continente ainda longe de atingir certos patamares.

De acordo com o governante,para que a África tenha harmonia e possa desenvolver-se é necessário que estes conflitos terminem.
Sobre à crise política vigente na Guiné-Bissau,João Miranda disse estar a acompanhar com muita atenção a actual situação e espera que a mesma se normalize com maior brevidade possível.
Entretanto,o embaixador da Argélia e vice-decano dos embaixadores africanos,Fatah Mahraz,igualmente presente no acto,disse que o dia de hoje,reafirma o desejo dos africanos lutarem pela libertação do jugo colonial.
Para o diplomata,é necessário que os adultos passem a mensagem sobre o 25 de Maio às gerações vindouras,pois ela tem um impacto histórico e político muito importante.

O dia 25 de Maio foi instituido em 1963,em Addis Abeba,Etiópia, durante uma reunião, pela primeira vez,entre seis chefes de Estados africanos que discutiram sobre a libertação de África do domínio colonial e principalmente do regime segregacionista do Apartheid,na África do Sul.

Pedro Teta,Vice-Ministro Angolano da Ciência e Tecnologia na ONU

PEDRO TETA ELEITO PRESIDENTE DA COMISSÃO DE CIÊNCIA E TECNOLOGIA DA ONU,POR DOIS ANOS

O Vice-Ministro da Ciência e Tecnologia,Pedro Teta,foi eleito hoje, em Genebra,Suíça,Presidente da Comissão de Ciência e Tecnologia das Nações Unidas.
Pedro Teta,que até 2003,foi Vice-presidente desta comissão,vai dirigi-la por dois anos.
O referido órgão é uma comissão especializada da Comissão Económica e Social das Nações Unidas,que tem como objectivo apoiar o sistema da ONU no domínio das ciências e tecnologias,fazendo recomendações e referências,fundamentalmente,para apoiar os países em via de desenvolvimento,em particular os africanos.
Pedro Teta regressa a Angola dentro de duas semanas.

Angola Was Elected Today In Geneva...

ANGOLA PRESIDES OVER UN SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY COMMISSION

Angola was elected today in Geneva,Switzerland,to preside over the ninth session of the United Nations Science and Technology Commission.
The Angolan Deputy Minister for Science and Technology and co-ordinator of the National Commission on Information Technologies, Pedro Teta,was elected by the representatives of the 32 member countries,at the end of the eighth session of the commission,started Monday.
For the Vice Presidencies of the Commission,whose ninth session will be held in 2006,were elected the representatives of Jordan,Jamaica, Romenia and Austria.
Speaking to ANGOP,after the voting session,Mr Teta congratulated himself with the election,underlining that it represents a recognition of active presence of Angola in this commission in the past two years,as well as the engagement of the Angolan Government in the creations of conditions for the Southern African country`s technological development.
"We Angolans,we are all congratulated,he said,adding that it is every country`s pride to preside over a commission,that depends on the United Nations Economic and Social Council(Ecosoc).

PEDRO TETA ELECTED CHAIRMAN OF UN'S SCIENCE,AND TECNOLOGY COMMISSION

The Angolan Deputy Minister of Science and Technology,Pedro Teta,on Thursday,in Geneva(Switzerland),was elected Chairman of the Commission for Science and Technology of the United Nations.
Pedro Teta was the deputy chairman of this commission until 2003,and this new post has a two-year mandate.
This organ is a specialised Commission of the Economic and Social Commission of the UN,whose task is to support the UN system in the fields of sciences and technologies,making recommendations and references,mainly to support developing countries,especially in Africa.

Japan:Angolan Children At World Summit On Environment

CHILDREN AT WORLD SUMMIT ON ENVIRONMENT

Two Angolan children are attending the World Children Summit,taking place from Today to May 29,2005,in Aichi,Japan,a source with the Angolan Ecological Youth has announced.
The children,aged 10 and 12 years old,have been selected by the United Nations Programme for Environment and the Japanese Government, said the source.
They will present at the Summit,an exhibition on books,environmental education material,among others.
About 1500 children are attending the gathering that is taking place under the theme "Thinking Global and Acting Locally",in the ambit of the Expo/2005,which is being held in Japan.
Participants at this gathering will discuss matters related to the state of environment in their communities,as well as will define ways of participation in the protection of water,environment,oceans, biodiversity,soils,forests and native people.
At the end of the summit,the children will present to the Governments of the countries attending Expo/Japan,a statement named "Children Letter,Saving the Earth",in which they suggest actions,projects for improvement and protection of environment in the respective countries.
Visits,tours and excursions to Expo-Japan/2005 are part of the leisure time.
